Kukui Nut or Candle Nut tree. This is the Hawaiʻi State tree. The nuts are used to make decorative lei and other ornamentation. The seeds are used for medicine by Hawaiians as well as other parts of the tree. When the seeds are cooked, they are edible and used to make ʻinamona. The bark and outer shell of the nut are used to make dyes.
Kukui trees produce a light blond-white to light yellowish colored wood. It is a very soft and lightweight wood. The trees can grow to heights of up to 30 m (98 ft), with widespread branches and pale green leaves.
